Fearing the Library
Posted by RJ on April 19, 2008
I have tried to avoid the library for many years now. When a visit has been suggested to me, I respond with ferocity and utter contempt, “I don’t DO libraries.”
During the course of my college years, I have been forced to peruse reference items and utilize machinery that only remains in house. I disguised myself as completely disinterested and spent my time on the internet wasting liters of printer ink and reams of paper.
While in my poorest days, I would rather spend my nickels and dimes buying books on Half.com. Then, I moved up to Amazon.com. Now, I occasionally treat myself to Barnes & Noble or Borders, though only with coupons and other discounts.
My public excuse for using my few dollars on the purchase of books is: I have to be able to deface them, grad school style.
The real reason: I never return the books on time and don’t want to pay library fines.
(I feel much freer now, maybe I should have PostSecret-ed this.)
