40 is the New 20…as far as gas is concerned

Posted by RJ on April 25, 2008

Remember when you could fill up your tank for one fresh $20 bill? It seems so distant. Now it costs at least double that. I have had to revamp my entire life like many others.

Instead of going window shopping at the mall, I spend hours on the internet pretend shopping (aka adding to my wish list). At least I can surf the web wirelessly on someone else’s $25 a month.

Instead of going to the grocery store every 2 weeks, I wait until there’s nothing left but canned corn and stale end-pieces of bread in the pantry.

I feel sad for those of you driving big wig SUVs Hummer. Sometimes, I put only $10 in mine, just to get up the street. When you put $10 in yours, it must get you to the next traffic signal.

I am sick of the comparison to gas in England. So what they pay $5 a gallon? We’re not fucking England! I don’t pretend to follow the news and know why the oil prices are up. Frankly, I don’t give a damn. But I’m tired of feeling helpless and trapped and want to stand up and kick the government’s ass like a democratic society is supposed to. I wish the American people would unite and actually follow through on one of these Strike the Gas Station Day e-mails.

You wouldn’t steal a car? Probably not (especially if I have to fill up the tank). You wouldn’t steal a movie? Maybe (very likely if the guy on the corner sells them for $5 and I’m stuck at home anyway). You wouldn’t steal gas? Um, hell yeah I would.

And you thought 40 being the new 20 was a good thing. ;)

Well said! Also those who give you this load of bull about gas prices in Europe, and….oh, thank god we have it much better here. they fail to mention many detrimental factors; In Europe 1) incomes are higher, 2)distances are shorter, 3) cars get much better gas mileage, 4) public transportation is massive, modern, clean, frequent, on time, extesive, used by a large majority, and affordable.

Here is another article that pisses me off–courtesy of CNN money. But it does attempt to provide some explanations.
